Canon Pixma Ts3122 Paper Not Feeding

If you've experienced the Canon Pixma MG2520 paper not feeding issue, I'll help you solve the problem.

I've learned a lot about fixing these printers, and last time I had to retrieve my daughter's DIY wristband from the printer.

A week ago, my Canon printer simply stopped working, flashed twice, and showed me a ridiculous "error 1300" message.

Upon restarting, it would make weird printing sounds when it was, in fact, printing nothing. Curiously, there was enough paper in the tray.

Canon Pixma MG2520 paper not feeding may be due to dirt in the paper rollers. It's also caused by curled, wrinkled, wet, torn or misaligned paper. At times it's due to malfunctioning printer software. Clean the paper rollers, remove obstructions, and align the paper stacks to fix the issue.

In this guide, I'll help you figure out why your Canon Pixma MG2520 doesn't want to feed paper properly. I'll then explain the quick fixes so you can save time and money.

Let's jump right in.

Why Canon Pixma MG2520 Not Feeding Paper?

To save you the hassle of trying out 1,001 workarounds, we first have to understand the root cause of the problem.

So, I'll give you a quick highlight of why your Canon MG2520 may not be feeding paper correctly.

First, the paper stack could have a sheet that is:

  • Torn
  • Misaligned
  • Wrinkled
  • Wet
  • Too smooth for the paper-feed rollers
  • Dusty

Other issues that cause paper not to feed properly in your Canon printer include:

  • Overloaded paper tray
  • Improperly inserted paper tray
  • Dirty rollers

At times the paper guide may press too tightly against the paper, preventing it from feeding.

In my experience, the paper settings could also mismatch the dimensions and type of paper in the tray.

Lastly, a strange object could be stuck in the printer, as it happened with my daughter's wristband.

How to Fix Canon Pixma MG2520 Paper Not Feeding?

Now that you have a hint of what causes your Canon printer to "misbehave," let's quickly go through the solutions.

These are the six working solutions if your Canon Pixma MG2520 doesn't feed paper:

Solution #1: Check the Paper Condition

You need to stick with the type of paper recommended by Canon in your printing arsenal.

I strongly advise that you use plain paper for printing texts and photographic paper for photos. You can also print on envelopes, but adjust your settings accordingly.

Using paper that's in poor condition will give you poor results on top of causing nasty issues like paper jams.

Ensure the paper you use is not:

  • Damp, wrinkled, curled, or folded.
  • Too thick or too thin
  • A postcard of any form
  • Bound with staples, glue, or other adhesive
  • Decorated with sparkling material
  • Any shape other than rectangular
  • Punctured
If printing on envelopes, ensure they don't have double flaps. Additionally, if the envelope flap has adhesive, ensure it is not moistened.

To keep your paper from curling before you print, keep any unused paper in its package, and store it on a level surface.

Moreover, the entire paper package should be safe from heat, and humidity.

Solution #2: Reload the Paper Correctly

reload paper

If you get a paper feed error like "Source Code:1300", first remove the paper tray from the printer. Also, pull out the tray extension and flip the paper support open.

Remove any paper in bad condition, such as what we've just discussed in Solution #1 above.

Next, follow these steps for reloading the paper correctly:

  1. Prepare the paper by thoroughly aligning the edges.
  2. Slide the paper guide leftwards.
  3. Carefully load the tray in portrait orientation.
  4. Ensure the paper stack is within the loading mark.
  5. Push the tray into the printer.
  6. Restart the printer, then try a test print.

Ensure the paper guide presses only snugly against the paper. If it presses too tightly, the paper won't feed properly.

Tip: For troubleshooting purposes, I highly recommend you only load the tray with a few paper sheets (10-25).

Once you've resolved the paper not feeding issue, you can then load the tray normally.

Solution #3: Remove Jammed Paper & Stuck Objects

You'll figure out there's a paper jam if the attention light blinks orange and a troubleshooting message pops up on your computer screen.

Note: Cutting plain paper into smaller dimensions like 5 ✕ 7 or 4 ✕ 6 inches can lead to paper jams.

Here's how to remove jammed paper from your Canon MG2520:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power supply.
  2. Pull out the paper tray and open the paper support cover.
  3. Carefully pull out the jammed sheet using both hands.
  4. Close the paper support cover.
  5. Push the loaded tray all the way in.
  6. Reconnect the power supply.
  7. Restart the printer and initiate the print job afresh.

You should also check for tiny pieces of paper and foreign objects stuck between the feeder rollers.

In the case of tiny pieces of paper, turn off the printer and then turn it back on again. You should flush out the stuck piece.

Use a flashlight to check for other foreign objects between the paper feed rollers. If the obstruction is far beyond your hands' reach, it's time to take your printer for professional servicing.

Note: Be careful not to touch the clear film. Otherwise, your printer will be damaged.

If the jammed paper or foreign object is under the fine cartridge holder, move the holder slightly to the left or right. Next, take out the paper carefully.

Solution #4: Adjust the Paper Settings

check paper settings

At times you only need to tweak the settings for the media type and paper size to resolve the issue.

If you're printing on photographic paper, first confirm you're not using the default settings for plain paper printing.

Otherwise, change them accordingly before you print.

Solution #5: Update Your Printer Drivers

If you've tried all the fixes above and your printer still gives you an error, kindly download and install the latest software drivers.

Solution #6: Clean the Rollers

A build-up of dirt particles on the paper feed rollers can prevent the paper from feeding correctly.

Depending on the degree of dirt, you can clean the rollers without paper, with a  piece of paper, or using a moistened cotton swab.

Clean without using paper

Here's how to clean the rollers without using paper:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Take out the stack from the paper tray.
  3. Push the tray all back in.
  4. Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
  5. Long-press the Stop button till the alarm light blinks orange 7 times.
  6. Release the stop button

The rollers will rotate and shake off any dirt deposited on them. If this doesn't solve the issue, go to step (B) below:

Clean using a piece of paper

Here's how to clean the rollers using a piece of paper:

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Take out the stack from the paper tray.
  3. Insert a clean sheet of A4 paper into the rear tray.
  4. Pull out the paper output tray and extension entirely.
  5. Reconnect the power and turn on the printer.
  6. Long-press the Stop button till the alarm light blinks orange 7 times.
  7. Release the stop button immediately.

Your printer will do a self-cleaning, then stop when the paper is ejected. Proceed to the next step if the problem is not resolved after trying the above two fixes.

Clean using Cotton Swab

Here's how to clean the rollers with a moistened cotton swab:

  1. Power off the printer & disconnect the power cord.
  2. Clean the paper feed rollers in the rear tray using a moistened cotton swab.
  3. Gently rotate the rollers as you clean them.
  4. Reconnect the power supply, then turn on the printer.
  5. Long-press the Stop button till the alarm light blinks 7 times.
  6. Release the button.

Your printer should clean itself and start feeding paper normally.

Note: Clean the rollers only a few times to avoid wearing them out.
